| Just
in time for your winter getaway to the Caribbean, all travelers will be
required to have passports - including U.S. citizens returning to the U.S.
by air from throughout the Western Hemisphere - on January 23, 2007. Flunked
geography? This means you must have a passport for trips to Canada, Mexico
and parts of the Caribbean. |

| No
passport, no worry: There are hundreds of islands still accessible to US
citizens, in fact 137 in Hawaii alone. If you love the Caribbean, than you
will love - well, the Caribbean. You don't need a passport to visit the U.S.
Virgin Islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John in addition to Puerto
Rico. Here are a few more of our favorites: |
|
|
-
Catalina
Island: this tiny island feels a lot further away from LA's
traffic and pollution than just 20+ miles. Spend the day hiking, biking
and golfing or our favorite activity, bar hopping.
- Dauphine Island: when you think tropical paradise,
Alabama may not be the first destination that comes to mind but this
subtropical Gulf Barrier Island will change the way you think.
- Daufuskie Island: this secluded, upscale residential
sea island located between Savannah and Hilton Head Island is home to two
resorts oozing Southern charm. You'll want to come back y'all, ya hear?
- Islamorada: this Florida key is the sports fishing
capital of the world. You're guaranteed to come back with a fish tale or
two. The seas were mighty rough that day
- Kayak Island: this uninhabited island located in the
Gulf of Alaska is an important wildlife refuge. OK, not really a vacation
destination but we couldn't resist.
- Marco Island: this swanky resort island nestled in
the mangrove islands of southwest Florida's coast is the perfect
destination for a quiet family vacation or to spend your golden years.
Read: no nightlife.
- Mackinac Island: Nothing says romance like a trip to
Detroit, at least if you plan to visit Mackinac Island, a National
Historic Landmark located between Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas.
You might want to wait for warmer months if you plan to go in the water.
- South Padre Island: While one of the most beautiful
beaches in the U.S., this tropical tip of Texas should be avoided during
Spring Break unless you're looking to star in the next Girls Gone Wild
video.
